February 21, 1965 was the day a major human rights activist was killed. Malcolm X was shot and killed by Talmage Hayer. He was shot during a meeting of the Organization of Afro-Americans Unity. The assassin was part of a group called the Nation Of Islam. Malcolm was the minister of that group for several years before he left them. Malcolm was only 40.
February 24, 1964 was an amazing day for the amazing Muhammad Ali. He won a world championship in Heavyweight fighting. He fought reigning champion Charles Liston. Lots of people thought that Ali would lose by round two but he was victorious. Ali won when Liston wasn't able to fight in round seven. It was said to be one of the saddest upsets in sports history.
November 22, 1963 was the day we lost someone very important to our country. The country mourned over the fact that our president was killed. He was shot by a man named Lee Harvey Oswald. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson takes position as the president. Two day after the assassination is shot and killed while prison transfer. The Warren Commission ruled that Oswald had acted alone.
In 1962 Sam Walton opened the first ever Wal-Mart. The store was opened in Rogers, Arkansas. The storee sold thing for incredibly low prices. It was a big hit. More stores soon opened and Wal- Mart became very popular. By 1980 Walton was the richest man in the U.S.A.
January 20, 1961 was a very important day for our nation. John F. Kennedy became our president. After defeating Nixon he took his place in the white house. Kennedy won by 100,000 votes. Lyndon b. Johnson became his vice president. And our country grew with a new leader.
